Platypus Bay Fraser Island

For the last week we have been sailing in company with the Yacht "Rose" and her very friendly and generous crew. As we have sailed along the Bay from Arch Cliff to Triangle Cliffs we have enjoyed many great moments together, over meals and sunset drinks. Rose has now departed for Lady Musgrave Island on the Great Barrier Reef, leaving us to enjoy Platypus Bay on our own.

An eight kilometre beach walk to Wathumba Creek, a popular spot for catamarans and trailer sailors, was great to see up close, with its varied coastal vegetation and not another living soul! It does feel we are in another world!! Enjoy as we certainly are...

It was a delightful spot to spend Mothers Day 2009, enjoying a BBQ on the beach with family from Brisbane. After a great lunch and a few drinks we just lay down next to our log and had a nap. Life is great, enjoy...

That evening we rugged up ready for our night sail - 90 nautical miles up the coast to Fraser Island, only to encounter a cruise ship setting out on its sunset dinner schedule. Our arrival at Inskip Point south of Fraser Island heralded the start of 24 hours of fairly constant rain. This is cruising!! The sail up the Great Sandy Strait inside Fraser Island to Garry's anchorage, a popular spot, was great and our friends on Rose were there ready to welcome us. Our walk the next day on Fraser Island reminded us that this is indeed the home of one of Australia's largest Dingo populations. Enjoy as we are ...
