The Start of 2010 - Bundaberg Working Bee, June/July 2010

Erica and crew ready to leave bundaberg after refit and big clean up

Erica heads for the ocean in her travel lift home of 7 months

Covers come off Erica as the anti-fouling paint is sprayed on.

Neighbours next to our Cabin decide to have a cane fire before we leave

Even the locals are getting bored with Erica's slow progress!

Final Undercoat on and now ready for the anti-fouling finish.

The mess inside is as bad as outside as wiring and plumbing all need to be done before she can float.

Two days short of 4 weeks we now have the first epoxy undercoat on and minor fairing applied. It's now looking like the job will be an extra 2 weeks. Bundy's wet and cold weather hasn't helped!

Life for Phil in Bundy has been hard work but have now found time to catch up with Adelaide friends in Hervey Bay and Brisbane friends at Woodgate Beach, all near Bundy. Also drove to see the town of Seventeen Seventy and this is Baffle Creek on the way.

Not sure what's the hardest part of this job so far but now glad we have started the 3rd phase after 17 days and are putting a fairing coat of Expoy on the bottom of Erica.

The Shipwright on his bike when we run out of something vital!!

Phil rolling out fibreglass before it is applied to the bottom of the Hull - This is Work Life Balance!!

Colin, the shipwright, and Mark, the hard worker, rolling the saturated fibreglass onto the hull.

New Solar Air Vent - Something clean!
Osprey Droppings on the deck - what a mess!

Shipwright sanding the bottom - lots of this to do

Erica with covers all around to contain the sanding dust

Home in Burnett Heads while work is undertaken on Erica

Initial grinding of the bottom is complete and now to put that perfect surface back!

After 6 months in Adelaide with family, friends and working now 50% of Erica's crew is back in Bundaberg Port Marina where Erica was left in dry storage out of the water. During the first 3 weeks of June 2010 (and now July) Erica will undergo a major refit of her under body with the crew working as labour for the Bundy Tradees. While the work is being undertaken it's not civilised enough to live aboard so the crew has taken up residence in the local mobile home park - living on a boat in the water is better!! As work on Erica progresses we'll add a few working shots to the blog so you can follow the progress. Who said cruising was easy, not us, but you do learn a whole range of new skills! We'd rather be Sailing!
